Corner Cabinets Part 1

Corners in the kitchen can be extremely complicated, but does not have to be if the right guy is doing your layout. I do have to admit sometimes you just have to kill the corner. An example would be the image to the left. There are other choices, for example a diagonal corner cabinet, or a blind corner cabinet. Tomorrow I will hopefully go into detail and explain those a bit more.

Cabinet Heights

The basic sizes for a stock kitchen are pretty much universal, maybe not everyone carries every size, but all manufacturers use the system. Starting with 9" wide they go in 3" increments. The size after 9" would be 12", 15", 18" etc.
The base cabinets are generally 34 1/2" high(without the counter). The counter is 1 1/2" high which now brings the total height from the floor to the top of the counter to 36". The "National Kitchen & Bath Association" standards for the back splash is 18Which now brings us to a total of 54", before we start the wall cabinets.
Wall cabinets run the same way. The only difference is that wall cabinets or any cabinet not considered a base cabinet we have the height to worry about as well. Wall cabinets generally come in three different heights, 30", 36" & 42". Sometimes you will have some stock companies skipping over the 36", and only give you the choices of 30", and 42".
So if we now take the 54" that we have for the base cabinet, the counter, and the back splash, and add it to the 30" tall wall cabinet, it will bring us to a total of 84". If we do the 36" high cabinet it will bring us to a total height of 90". And if we use the 42" high wall cabinet, that will bring us to a total of 96". Basically those are the standard sizes for stock cabinets.

Framed vs. Framless

Today I would like to start talking in depth about alot of the words I may have mentioned here in the blog without giving much explanation. I`m going to start with the difference in framed and framless cabinets.
Kitchen cabinets are made either with or without the face frames. The results are different products, they look and operate very differently. Each one has something over the other. What we find with the real estate landlords that we deal with is they prefer the framed cabinets, simply because it is a stronger box. It has an extra frame making the box more complete. The framed box has a small draw back that since it has the frame, it sometimes makes it harder to fit big pots or containers through the doors.

Jim Bishop Part 2

Continuing with the "Bishop Cabinets", below is an excerpt of the Bishop promise.
The Bishop Family Promise
Things happen. You forget a component. You add a corner unit. A box gets dinged in shipment. Order from Bishop, though, and one thing is certain: we’ll move with a purpose to make your order right. Call customer service and you’ll speak to a person, not a machine. When time is critical, we’ll walk your order through the system so that you have your cabinet in days, not weeks. Service, not excuses: it’s the Bishop family way.

Bishop Cabinets has been in business for over 45 years. During that time period we have grown at a modest rate by investing in technology and machinery that has raised the level of quality in our product. We are a debt-free company that through the years has prepared for bad economic conditions such as the one we are in at this time. We are committed to a quality product, environmental stewardship, and impeccable customer service. Give Bishop a try and see the difference.

With their new lines introduced, we at "Regal Kitchens" wish them nothing but continued success.
