Self Edge Counter Tops

In yesterdays blog post, we talked about the different Post form tops we stock here at "Regal Kitchens", as well as the choice in different post form styles. Today I would like to discuss "Self Edge" counter tops. In post form we are very limited to the different colors available, as well as the different styles(post form is a style in itself). If you look to at the picture on the left you will see that there are so many cuts going every which way. The advantage of self edge counter tops over post form tops, besides for the customization, is that the "laminate comes in a little thicker grade material. The post form laminate is a little thinner, since the back splash and counter are all one piece, so the laminate has to be able to bend to cover it all. Now on the self edge top can have a bull nose edge or any other edge, but since we will be bending the laminate, we would have to use the thinner laminate for the self edge.
The post form comes in 10 foot lengths or 12 foot lengths, already glued to the wood, all the warehouse has to do is just cut it down to the appropriate sizes, and then finish the edges are properly. In self edge, the laminate comes in sheets of 4 foot x 8 foot, and we have to glue it to the wood, and fabricate the entire counter from scratch, which is obviously a little more time consuming.
Below are links to our laminate suppliers to view a full selection of colors available.

Post Form Counter Tops

When it comes to counter tops as simple as it looks, there are so many variations of fabrication and styles. We at "Regal Kitchens" carry pretty much all of them. Like we mentioned in the past the most common counter tops we supply are Granite, and Laminate counters. In the "Laminate" we have what`s called "Self Edge", and we have "Post form". The most common difference between "Post form" and "Self Edge" is that the back splash and the counter are all one piece of laminate in the "Post form". I would like to go through today all the differences in the post form tops.
Crescent - Crescent is A high quality profile counter top edged with a 90º radius on it`s front. The Crescent back splash is raised 3 3/4" above deck and finished with a 90º radius. Crescent is one of the most popular post form counter top design installed in today's economical times. This counter is made of Pressed Wood.
Mercury - Mercury is A rounded modern looking counter top with A 1/2" radius on the top and bottom of it`s front edge. A 3" seamless back splash flows continuous to the top deck where it ends with a 90º radius. The neat look of this classic top, compliments the appearance of relatively any kitchen. This counter is made of Pressed Wood.
Pluto - Pluto is a very durable plywood counter top, finished with a 90º front edge. This front edge is raised with an additional no drip bump to prevent water fall. A 3 3/4" back splash extends above deck. Pluto adds the quality necessary for the most frequently used kitchens. Pluto is made with water resistant plywood that will protect your counter top for a long time.
In certain layouts post form is not recommended, but still offered. When you have a "L-Shape" kitchen, because the laminate is all one piece you have to make the seam on the angle(see the circled diagram below).

See below brochure for the available color options in Post form.

Tomorrow I would like to go into "Self Edging".
